Home Alone (A Halloween Story) by Victoria Runnells Now, Halloween, what is there to tell? Little kids want to go house to house for candy and teens want to go to a house party. But, I on the other hand decide to stay home to a wait unexpected turn of events. See at this very moment I am on the stairs in nothing, but a bath robe. As I walk down them I wonder why I decided to stay home alone. I hate to be home alone. My parents and little brother had gone out to some friend’s house party or something like that. Yet, when I was invited to go with them I said no. And when I was told I could go to the party I was invited to, again I said no. But, I bet you are wondering why I am standing here in a bath robe. See I had just gotten out of the shower when I heard sounds, like the television was on, coming from downstairs. So, of course I had to go check out what it is. As I neared my living room I saw a figure sitting on the couch. I quickly turned around to grab my little brother’s baseball bat. For once I was grateful he didn’t like to clean up after himself. Turning back to the living room the figure was gone. Thinking my mind was playing tricks on me, I set the thought aside. I put the bat down on the couch and walked over to the television to turn it off. I begin to feel thirsty. Walking into the kitchen I take a glass out of the cabinets and put it under the faucet. I only got a sip out of it before I hear something coming from the stairs. I put the glass down on our marble countertop and went to check what it was. There was no one there. At this point I believe that I’ve had too much candy corn and horror films. I headed for my room. The door was slightly ajar. I know I had closed it completely. Slowly opening the door I stepped in. I looked around. Nothing looked out of place. However, I have one of those eerie songs that play in movies when something bad was about to happen in my mind. A shiver goes up my spine as I felt a breeze from the door closing behind me. I took a step forward. Cold metal pulled against my wrist. They feel like handcuffs. Someone pressed there body against mine behind me. Another shiver goes up my spine. Suddenly they whisper in my ear, “It’s Halloween. So, what is a pretty freshman like you doing home alone?” I relax and turn around. I hit the person behind me who remains unmoved. It doesn’t take me long to yell at him. “Don’t ever do that to me again. Baka (idiot). You scared me to death. You know how imaginative my mind is.” I looked into his eyes. They have an amused look and he just bursts out laughing. “Oh, come on. You know I was only playing. It’s Halloween where is your sense of mischief. You shouldn’t be heading to bed. You should be out partying or hanging with me. And to think that you couldn’t figure out who I was when I put the handcuffs on you.” “What ever. So, what do you want, Nathaniel?” “For you to come with me to a Halloween party in Astoria. It is suppose to be the one that everyone is going to try and out do all year. So, you coming with?” “Yeah, I have nothing better to do, as you know. Just give me ten minutes to get ready.” I quickly search my drawers for something to wear and throw on a few pieces of jewelry. I ran down stairs to meet Nathaniel and was out the door to the Halloween party that was to be the talk of the year. |
